Bullying Campaign

The whole project has changed and went in a completely different direction. The blog has not been able to get updated as much as I would have liked due to the change of plans and the struggle to find a new idea. The project went from writing a poetry book with chilren, to working on a poem video to now doing a bullying campaign video. The idea was discovered when I asked my mom what I should do and since someone very close to me is currently having problems in school with bullying, she brought the idea to my attention. This I think is the best because bullying is such a thing thast goes on constantly and really doesn't get acknowledged as much as it should. It has now recently been noticed with the new movie called "Bully" and now people can take notice. What people fail to realize is that there are different forms of bullying and solutions to help it stop and this is what I hope to point out in this video.

My project is definately going in another direction at this pount and instead of just workung with strictly children I plan on involving the whole city, but the main focus will be youth. I plan on making a series of videos of me working with children doing poetry woekshops and talking to adults about it. The details will go more in depth when my idras are actually pieced together. Hopefully there will be no more complications.

One door closes and another one opens

              Yesterday afternoon I made a trip to Strong and unfortunately plans and did not go as expected. come to find out, Strong has a strict policy  on the privacy of their patients and volunteers have to go through a 6 month process in order for people to have direct contact with them, and the only thing I can do is respect that. Although it didn't go as I would have liked, a lovely lady by the name of Wendy directed me to one of the workers name Jermaine who actually works with youth and hosts youth based events. Jermaine has written various columns for the newspaper and has great connections with being able to reach out to the youth. I will be talking to Jermaine more regarding the project but I still want to go see if I can find a community center or daycare where I can still work with the children as I hoped and still be able to incorporate my ideas. I think I might actually have an idea in mind. I am very grateful that I was introduced this idea  and it is a perfect example of of one door closing and another one opening. I can't wait to get started with this!

Outline of Project

This is what I have so far but it is always open for changes. This is also what I will be taking to the hospital tomorrow when I go and visit the coordinator of the children's hospital so they can sort of get an idea of what it is I am trying to do and I want to make a good impression and not have them think I am unprepared.


Personal Project Outline

Introduction:
I’ve yet to work with the children but I still feel as if I need a game plan so this is just a little organization sheet that is in the process of being perfected and always open for changes. What I have so far is just the basics and the obvious, but I wish to expand on this project further by adding any ideas that I just happen to come up with on my own, or any suggestions from other people. This more than just a school project now that I have had a chance to work a little bit on it and think about it, it’s a way to show that I care and give back to the community that’s why it is such an important thing for me to work hard on this project because the MYP part is barely on my mind.

What needs to be done:

• Go to Strong
• Purchase materials
• Permission from parents (permission slip?)
• Raise money
• Schedule for visiting hospital and activity plan

• Pencils
• Pens
• Paper (thick paper)
• Plaster
• Crayons
• Paint
• Oil pastels
• Decorated notebooks (at least 10-15)
• Stickers
• Glitter
• Glue
• Scissors

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Update

         I know I haven't been posting as I should have and I apologize because I have been so busy but  it is currently Tuesday of February recess and I am making a list of the things that will be needed for when I work with the children at the children's section of Strong hospital. In addition to writing various types of writing pieces, I also decided that I will work with the children and have them create art pieces, such as drawing, painting, sketches and 3D models of anything they choose, and then if they agree to it I will sell them at exhibit night to raise money that will be donated to the hospital. However, if they wish to keep it they can. I want to at least work with 5 of the children, if not more so they can also share the experience. I also plan to raise money on my own time that will either be used to purchase the kids presents at the end of the volunteer experience or will too be donated to the hospital, I've yet to decide what I want to do. I have not started the project regarding to working with the kids, but I hope to work with them as soon as possible so the ending product can be the best it can be. I will keep you guys updated on my process with the Book of Life. Bye.

Strong update

Well, I went to Strong yesterday afternoon and  saw alot of children that I hope to work with soon. Unfortunately I came to late in order to speak to the director of the children section of the hospital but I did receive an email address to contact her from a nurse that was very helpful. I will keep the email address but I am determined to meet  in person to show them how serious I am about this project so I will be going back either Monday or Thursday to speak to the director.

Strong

Today I will be visiting Strong hospital to see whether or not they will allow me to work with the children. Fingers are crossed and hopes after high regarding the daily visitations to the hospital for my personal project.
